This part of our program involves a team of twelve to fifteen volunteers going to the street one night a week to meet with the homeless and street dependent population. Our time and
location are always the same so we display dependability. e
We go out every Thursday night of the year except Thanks- giving (several other organizations provide hot meals on that holiday). The response to our presence on the street is always welcoming, and on any given night we can draw anywhere from 50 to 125 participants.
We do our best to keep track of what is happening with our friends, and know of many instances where we've helped adults and families with children with additional assistance such as getting them off the streets and making job referrals.
To everyone we freely give food, clothing, hygiene items, batteries, candles, blankets, backpacks, a listening ear, and compassion. In this way, we work at connecting with our clients to build trusting relationships that will eventually lead to people accepting us and the help we have to offer.
Our goals include establishing mentoring relationships to teach life skills that will help people to mend their broken lives and get off the street permanently.
