One Thursday evening after our weekly street outreach a man approached us with a story that was heartbreaking. He had just missed his bus, on his way home to Michigan after completing a very long journey.

He was the father of two beautiful teenage daughters, and one of them had recently committed suicide. His journey around the country was for the purpose of talking to parents everywhere and telling them of the critical importance of doing everything possible to keep the lines of communication open with their teenagers.

It's so easy to mistake moodiness or silence for normal teenage angst he explained. It's so important to keep them talking and to really pay attention to what they don't always know how to say, he said with the wisdom that was paid for with many tears.

We helped him to get on his way and we have heard from him that he is safely home with his daughter and back volunteering at the local teen center.

And we promised to pass his message along to all of you, to everyone with a teenager in your life. Please pay attention. Listen. Don't shrug it off. Get help if you think there is any chance it's needed.

Update on Van Progress!

One van is on the street in service, complete with new shelves and overhead lights. Wow, what a difference! It's so much easier to organize and find what's needed.
The other van is still 'in work' and will soon be out on the street providing services to women and their children. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

 An Opportunity Just For You!

It is only through the hard work and dedication of our many volunteers that we have been able to serve our community. Our volunteers who find that opportunity to serve in an area that is a good match for their gifts and abilities feel they get back so much more than they give. This year we have many new opportunities and we would love to have your participation!

Food Bank Delivery: Pick up food from our food coordinators and deliver to the clients receiving food. In addition to delivering food we recommend those delivering to offer prayer and encouragement to the client.
Saturday Van Preparation: We meet every Saturday to sort cloths, and clean and prepare the Street Lights van.

Mentors: We are looking for mature Christians who will be advisors / mentors in the ministries evaluation process. If you have leadership skills, spiritual discernment, compassion, and wisdom, we would love to discuss mentoring with you. Training will be available for those who can devote once or twice a week.
Resume Writing: If you have your own computer and writing skills we need your help to update resumes and cover letters for clients we are setting up for jobs.
Panera Bread: Pick up bread on Wednesday or Sunday night at 9:00 PM at the Hawks Prairie location, and deliver to our storage facility.
Craig’sList: Take digital pictures of items donated for the ministry and post them.
Street Lights Photographer: Do you understand photography and love capturing candid portraits? We are looking for someone who can take digital pictures during Street Lights on Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Ministry Teams: Can your team donate one night a month to join us on the street and conduct the ministry for that night? We encourage drama, speaking, music, and intercession. Youth are encouraged to participate, but most be accompanied by adult church leaders.
CPA & Attorney: We are looking for a CPA & attorney who will donate time as advisors.
